(Longmont, Colo.) July 26, 2010 - Flatiron, one of the nation's largest transportation and infrastructure contractors, has hired Allan Sylvester as vice president and manager of the company's Tunneling Group. Based in northern Virginia, the Tunneling Group will pursue large-scale tunneling projects across North America.

Mr. Sylvester brings 36 years of underground construction experience to Flatiron. He previously served as a senior vice president and division manager for Clark Construction. Prior to serving at Clark, Mr. Sylvester spent fifteen years at Kiewit Construction.

Flatiron will build the new Tunneling Group with existing in-house staff supplemented with additional expertise from its parent company, HOCHTIEF. Via its subsidiary, HOCHTIEF Construction, AG, HOCHTIEF provides tunnel construction, civil engineering, surveying, wastewater facilities and specialized underground structures for clients worldwide. "We'll combine Flatiron's construction and project management expertise with HOCHTIEF's extensive tunneling experience to provide clients with a turn-key solution for projects," says Mr. Sylvester.
