Firestone, Colo. (Apr. 17, 2012) - Flatiron's State Route 92/Interstate 880 Interchange Reconstruction project in Hayward, Calif., has won an Excellence in Partnering Award in the Projects Over $50 Million category and a Constructor Award for Excellence in Project Management in the Projects Over $10 Million category from the Associated General Contractors of California. The awards were presented at the 2012 AGC of California Awards Banquet on April 14 in San Francisco.

The SR 92/I-880 Interchange project was reconstructed by a joint venture team of Flatiron and Granite Construction. The rebuilt interchange, one of the Bay Area's busiest and used by more than 235,000 vehicles per day, provides additional traffic capacity, relieves congestion and helps improve traffic safety and operations. Flatiron and Granite partnered closely with owner California Department of Transportation to develop innovative solutions to mitigate delays and finish this complex job a month ahead of schedule.

Two other projects were also recognized at the AGC California Awards Banquet. Flatiron's Big Bear Bridge project in Big Bear, Calif., was named a finalist for two awards: the Excellence in Partnering Award in the Projects Under $50 Million category and the Constructor Award for Meeting the Challenge of the Difficult Job, Engineering Classification. Flatiron's Interstate 15 managed lanes project in San Diego was selected as a finalist for an Excellence in Partnering Award in the Projects Over $50 Million category.

The prestigious AGC of California Constructor Awards program annually recognizes contractor achievement in addressing difficult challenges faced on construction projects. The Excellence in Partnering Awards, given annually by the AGC of California Education Foundation, celebrate the extraordinary partnerships that are critical to the successful completion of high-quality California construction projects.

The SR 92/I-880 Interchange Reconstruction project has been honored with several other awards in 2012 including a Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Special Recognition Award from the Associated General Contractors of America and a John L. Martin Partnered Project of The Year Award, Diamond Level, from the International Partnering Institute.
