President and Chief Operating Officer, E.E. Cruz
Joseph Malandro, P.E., F.ASCE, is the president and chief operating officer of E.E. Cruz and Company, a subsidiary of Flatiron and Turner based in New York City. EE Cruz specializes in heavy construction projects in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. Joe has more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1970 from the Newark College of Engineering, Joe began his career as a sanitary engineer working for Elson T. Killam Associates in Millburn, New Jersey. In 1978, he joined Anselmi & DeCicco Construction Company in Maplewood, New Jersey as a project manager. In 1985, Joe joined E.E. Cruz & Company, Inc. as a project manager for the reconstruction of six major bridges on Route 287 in New Jersey. He has since managed major projects in both New Jersey and New York, including bridge, roadway, foundation and micro-tunneling projects. His most notable achievements include management of the Cut and Cover Air Train Tunnel at JFK Airport and the Foundation and Slurry Wall Construction for 60 Hudson Street, New Jersey's tallest building, in Jersey City. Joe then moved up the ranks in E.E. Cruz with a promotion to vice president in 1997, chief operating officer in 2002 and adding the title of president two years later in 2004. E.E. Cruz began a five year history working at the World Trade Center site in 2006 where the Company completed over $325 million of work. Joe has been instrumental in E.E. Cruz's tremendous growth and success. Over the last 20 years, E.E. Cruz has successfully completed over two billion dollars of infrastructure improvements including highways, bridges, pipelines and foundations. The company now generates more than $100 million in annual revenue. As a member of Flatiron's executive committee, Joe helps keep the lines of communication open between Flatiron and E.E. Cruz as the companies work toward continued integration.
