Flatiron Led Joint Venture Team Lands $705M Project in Washington State

I-405 Widening and Express Toll Lanes between Renton and Bellevue

Broomfield, Colorado (August 23, 2019)  Flatiron West, Inc., a subsidiary of Flatiron Construction Corp., one of the largest infrastructure contractors in North America, is proud to announce that it, together with its joint venture partner, Lane Construction Corporation, has been announced apparent best value bidder by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for the $705M I-405, Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes project. 

The design-build project will widen lanes and install a dual express toll lane system between State Route 167 in Renton and NE 6th Street in Bellevue, Washington and is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2024.

WSDOT expects to award the contract in mid-September 2019, and issue Notice to Proceed on October 15, 2019, with actual construction getting underway early next year.

Washington State motorists will see express toll lanes similar to the dual outlay already completed by Flatiron between Bellevue and Lynnwood. In addition, the project will add greater capacity via two new southbound auxiliary lanes and additional I-405 interchanges to keep pace with the new roadway. 

The project, the second I-405 project for Flatiron, will also build parts of the eagerly anticipated 42-mile Eastside Rail Corridor Trail, as well as new infrastructure to support Sound Transit’s I-405 Stride Bus Rapid Transit system. “We are thrilled to be leading another project in Washington State and look forward to easing congestion on yet another section of the I-405,” said Richard Grabinski, Executive Vice President and Deputy Chief Operating Officer.
