Flatiron VP Presented Distinguished Mentoring Award

(May 31, 2017) – For serving as a role model for women in law and mentoring fellow lawyers to help them achieve career success, a chapter of the Canadian Bar Association honored Flatiron Legal Vice President Rachel Mockler for her dedication and commitment to these causes.

At the bar association’s Women Lawyers Forum awards gala in Vancouver in April, Rachel received the Debra Van Ginkel QC Mentoring Award. The award recognizes women lawyers who selflessly pledge their time to building “trusting and collaborative relationships” and sharing “personal experiences,” ultimately to help women navigate the ups and downs of the field and overcome the myriad of challenges they face.

The bi-annual award is named in honor of Debra Van Ginkel, an exceptional lawyer who advocated for mentorship among women in the profession. The Canadian Bar Association’s British Columbia Branch fulfilled her vision when the Women Lawyers Forum Mentoring Program was established, as well as instituting the award to foster the next generation of mentors.

The forum, of which Rachel is a member, as well as the Canadian Bar Association, promotes and supports the “stature and influence of women in the legal profession,” according to their website. {end article}
