Orangethorpe Avenue Grade Separation

Orangethorpe Photo_smAnaheim, Calif. – Flatiron crews are hard at work improving traffic for commuters in Anaheim and Placentia. The $45 million project for the Orange County Transit Authority entails elevating a four-lane city street above the BNSF railroad by placing 300,000 cubic yards of fill and building multiple retaining walls. The project is expected to greatly improve traffic conditions for commuters.

“There are multiple railroad street crossings throughout the city and this street, so when a train comes through—which is often— traffic comes to a halt,” advises project manager Lenny Gardino. Workers began the project—one of seven sister projects in the larger Orange County Bridges program—in July with underground and demolition work before turning their attention to switching traffic to a temporary bypass road, allowing for construction of a major bridge. Completion is slated for spring 2016.
