Flatiron Texas Wins Prestigious Safety Award for Fourth Year in a Row

Texas AGC also gives us a Certificate of Commendation

Flatiron Texas Safety is on quite the “hot streak”!

For the fourth straight year Flatiron’s Texas District has been awarded the Bluebonnet Safety Award. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) give out the accolade.

“These awards are not possible without the continued support and engagement from our employees, their supervisors, the project management teams, up through Flatiron’s executive leadership,” says Texas District Safety Manager James Walcik.

But that’s not all for Flatiron’s Lone Star State safety team.

The AGC also awarded the Texas District its Certificate of Commendation for the second year in a row.

Flatiron received the awards for having in an incident rate 25% below the awarding bodies’ benchmarks.

“Truly a team effort”

“This is a significant achievement for our Texas team,” says Flatiron Vice President of Divisional Operations for Texas and Colorado Nick Polce. “I’m proud to be part of an organization that values the health and safety of our employees and is committed to delivering safe projects to our clients.”

For Walcik, practicing Flatiron’s foundational core value is a way of life.

“This is truly a team effort, and I am extremely proud to be a part of the Texas District,” he says. “We all strive to ensure that everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.”

An already strong team grows stronger

Flatiron Texas has always adhered to extremely strict project safety guidelines. This year however, Walcik says additional measures were established. One example is safety managers now meet with project and area managers every two weeks. The group examines current safety trends and statistics. These meetings allow supervisors to identify any risk areas as early as possible, and get them addressed.
