We’re excited to share an important milestone achieved by Flatiron’s US-70 Interchange Improvement Project in Johnston County, North Carolina. In late October, 2022 the team successfully completed the project’s first major milestone: a critical traffic shift on the eastbound and westbound lanes of US-70 at Wilson’s Mill Road. This traffic shift will allow construction of a second Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall that is necessary prior to construction of the first bridge over Wilson’s Mills Road.

“Successfully completing this shift is such a huge achievement for the project. It will allow for continued momentum throughout the winter and a strong transition into next spring. Congratulations to the entire project team for a job well done!” – Jose Hinojosa, Project Manager

Awarded in early 2021, the US-70 Interchange Improvement Project will improve a 5-mile stretch of US-70 between Clayton, North Carolina and the Neuse River – just west of Smithfield, North Carolina. The improvements will upgrade the roadway to interstate standards, adding two new interchanges at major intersections.
