Another Big Award for Flatiron at Dallas Love Field

The American-Concrete-Pavement-Association has named our Dallas Love Field Runway 13R – 31L & Taxiway C project a “Gold” winner in the Commercial Service Airports category.

North Texas Concrete & Paving Manager Eli Mckinney was thrilled to get the news. “This is a testament to the long hours, hard work and dedication the entire team has put in to get to this point,” he said. “This award is icing on the cake for the Runway 13R-31L project that resulted from a very successful collaboration between the designer HNTB and The City of Dallas Department of Aviation.”

A panel of industry professionals (from contractors, suppliers and various government agencies) judged the awards.

The judges looked for critical items, including project scope, scheduling, concrete materials, quality control and testing results.

Crews paved more than 436,000 square yards on the project, with only 1% needing replacement due to quality issues.

This accolade is not the first for 13R-31L, which reached significant completion in October 2022. The 8,800-ft long runway had not been rehabilitated since 1990.

Engineering News-Record Texas & Louisiana just named it a “2023 Best Project” in its “Airport/Transit” category. The awarding body noted that 13R-31L had a 99.6% FAA concrete paving quality rating.

Airport Business also named the project its “2023 Project of the Year.”
